Good Afternoon, World 🙂
There’s something magical about outlining a novel. That sounds as pretentious as escargot, but it’s true.
This process of brainstorming, of throwing the skeletons onto the paper and watching them dance, has helped me understand what story I’m telling. There are so many concepts I want to explore, and so many possibilities that could materialize, should I let them.
When I sit down at my computer– or pull out my phone and start yammering like a crazy person– I feel this kinetic energy that I can only describe as exhilaration. A world is growing from my efforts, flaws and imperfections and all, and I have the privilege of trimming and sculpting these leaves and vines, setting up frames for climbing flowers, securing them in the sun.
I know where my story is going, but I don’t always know what direction I have to go to get there.
I love that.
I love creating a world as I explore, traveling alongside people whom I’m both concocting and getting to know. I don’t always get along with my companions, but still, we make it work. There’s plenty of labor ahead, but I feel confident in this book. I actually… Like it.
I know, holy shit.
That’s integral to writing any story worth its salt. If you hate the tale you’re trying to piece together, how the hell are you going to see it through to fruition? I’ve tried writing projects that I did not care about, and you could see my apathy dripping down every word. That is not the case with “Blood of the Witch.” I love this series, and I’m having so much fun creating it.
I have to finish this outline before I go away on vacation on the 3rd. Once it’s done, I’m going to send it to my beta readers, have them rip it apart, and when I come home, I’ll revise my outline according to their suggestions.
it’s go time.
I’m so excited for September to come. August was great, and while I could have done a better job keeping track of my word count and maintaining a consistent word output, it certainly hasn’t been a wasted month. I’m going to make sure I write one more article, do my best to post on this blog daily, and finish up that outline.
What are your goals for September? Are you writing anything? Whatcha doing?
Anyway, have a great Monday, I’ll see you tomorrow!
